We have been operating children's hair salons since 1994 and offering franchised outlets since 1995. With over 40 million children in the U.S., there is a huge market for children's hair salons. The hair industry has always been big, estimated over $35 billion a year, and the children's-only sector suggested at 10 percent (nearly $4 billion), is still growing.

History of Cookie Cutters

After three years of preparation we opened the first location in Indianapolis, Indiana with much success and positive reviews. Shortly after the first location, we opened several more and began selling franchised outlets mainly in the Midwest, but spreading nationwide over the years.

As a small family-owned business, Cookie Cutters has always put family and relationships first. Our growth was slow and determined. We did not have a large marketing department because we did not want a our team just pushing sales without concern for everyone in the system. We tended to setup areas where stores would grow, and let new growth come from successful operators. As word spread, we received a lot more requests for locations and now offer stores in most areas of the country and Canada, with further international growth on the horizon.

As one of the first children-only hair salons in the U.S., Cookie Cutters has always remained true to its motto of Discover How Much Fun a Haircut Can Be. Over the years we have tested everything we do, from our limited birthday parties, to deciding what products our locations will sell. This experience has kept our development firmly targeted towards children.

Our Successful Model

Over time there have been several business models in the children's hair business. From a salon trying to do parties with hair care, to children's services offered as part of a family salon. Our business model has been fine tuned to offer our franchisees and operators the benefit of keeping our cost-to-open low, and our on-going fees lower than others in the marketplace. This model has been placed into our operations manual and our salon build-out procedures. These confidential and tested methods combine to offer our partners a benefit not found anywhere else.
